Podgora is early inhabited due to its geographical position. For the first time is mentioned in written documents in 1571. as one of the places under the Venice protection, after the Turkish defeat at the Battle of Lepanto. From this period there are remains of a cemetery with some tombstones preserved.
Church of Sv. Tekla is mentioned in 1630. In Gornja Podgora which was inhabited until a large earthquake in 1962. year, there are numerous remains of churches, and most important buildings are also damaged in the earthquake, a large tower on the hill Roščići from the time of Turkish invasion. The tower has lost its "warlike" appearance since it was eventually adapted for housing.
Important historical monuments include the Church of All Saints, built in 1764. and the Chapel of the Holy Heart of Jesus built in 1804. made to build a family Mrkušić. During its long history to this day Podgora faced to the sea and its living from the sea, although until the second half of the twentieth century. After the great earthquake in 1962. Podgora was completely turned to the sea. Its inhabitants built their houses near the sea, rather than reconstructing old ones in the Gornja Podgora. Construction of the Adriatic highway and the growing presence of tourism also contributed.
