Hotel Picok is located in Đurđevac in the Podravska valley, between two natural geographic entities - Bilogora North Slope and the River Drava.
The interesting name for the hotel comes from a 16th century legend. In the summer of 1552, Đurđevan ingenuity, valour and perseverance paid off in the fight against the Turkish raiders 'Ulama-Beg' - the people were starving, but decided to trick the raiders by firing their last rooster from a cannon. Thinking that the town still had so much food that they could fire roosters from cannons and mock them in that manner, Ulama-beg backed down from his siege and retreated from the battlefield. (Picok means rooster in Croatian). This event is still commemorated today, after more than 400 years, at the end of June. It is staged as a play in the manifestation 'Picokiáda' and for centuries Đurđevan people have been called 'Picok'.
