The former Benedictine monastery has been completely renovated in 2011 and now offers all the comfort of a hotel with 23 rooms and a luxuriously furnished suite. The rooms are furnished in classical style and standard furniture. They offer a view to the park or to the courtyard with a fountain built in 1835, which invites you to relax in its shadow and let your imagination run free through the spirit of the ancient times.
The hotel is situated in a quiet location, near the sea, in a green environment, with quality service and parking next to the hotel. Guests with refined tastes can enjoy the delights of the Mediterranean cuisine in a romantic atmosphere of the Convent a-la carte restaurant. The Wellness Adria will gently indulge your body and soul in swimming pools, saunas, massages and beauty treatments; it is situated only 50 metres away from the hotel.
The former Benedictine monastery is today the central part of the hotel and it is an extraordinary cultural monument with a rich history. It is situated on the south coast of the Muggia Peninsula, in a picturesque and always green environment once called GASELLO, today OLTRA.
A church dedicated to a martyr from Trieste, St. Apollinaris was built here in the 9th century upon request of the bishop of Trieste. Two hundred years later (in 1072) the bishop of Trieste, Adalger, donated the church with all its properties to the Benedictine monastery of St. Nicholas in Venice. The new owners enlarged their properties with gifts and acquisitions, not only in Ankaran, but also in Koper and along all the eastern Istrian coast down to Poreč. They also built a monastery. The Benedictine monks had great merits also for the successful development of vineyards and olive groves in Ankaran. The wine from the monastery’s vineyards was served on the tables of Duke Filippo Visconti and of the famous Litta family. Famous wines from this region were exported to Germany with the name Lacrimae Christi (Christ's tears) in the 16th century.

In the time of the Illyrrian Provinces the monastery became a military hospital. The new owner, who dedicated Convent to tourism, did not change significantly the building, even though he made several restoration works. The fountain of Convent as we see it today was built in 1835. It was designed by Bonifazio from Piran and Dominik form Korte near Izola. In 1880 the owner built three arches on the front facade and a stone stairway in their interior to offer visitors a wonderful view of the courtyard with the fountain, which we can still enjoy today.
